Not sure which massage to choose?
What Is Pregnancy Massage?
Pregnancy Massage – also known as Prenatal Massage or Antenatal Massage – is massage specifically adapted for someone who is pregnant.
As your pregnancy progresses, your body goes through considerable physical changes. Your usual sleeping, sitting and standing positions may change, and areas such as your back, hips, legs, neck and shoulders can begin to feel tired or tense.
Pregnancy Massage takes these changes into consideration.
Your positioning, pressure and massage techniques are adapted to keep you comfortable and appropriately supported while allowing you to enjoy the relaxation and soothing touch of massage.
Which Pregnancy Massage Should I Choose?
I offer two Pregnancy Massage treatments at Pamper Room.
Full Body Pregnancy Massage

Your massage includes:
- Legs and feet

This is ideal if these are the areas where you're noticing the most everyday muscular tension or discomfort as your pregnancy progresses.

If you're unsure which treatment would be best for you, please contact me before booking and I'll be happy to help.
What Can I Expect During My Pregnancy Massage?
Before your massage begins, we'll complete a consultation and discuss:
- How many weeks pregnant you are
- How your pregnancy is progressing
- How you're feeling on the day
- Any medical conditions or pregnancy complications
- Any medication you're taking
- Areas of tension or discomfort
- Areas you'd particularly like me to concentrate on or avoid
Your massage will then be adapted accordingly.
Gentle, flowing massage movements are used with pressure adjusted to your comfort.
Massage oil is used to allow smooth, flowing movements while moisturising and conditioning the skin, helping it feel soft and supple.
Most importantly, this is your time to relax. Please tell me at any point if you'd like your position, pressure or anything else adjusted.
How Will I Be Positioned During My Massage?
Your comfort and support are particularly important during Pregnancy Massage.
For the back and back-of-leg sections of your treatment, you will be comfortably positioned on your side using my specialist Comfy Client Cushion, which is designed to provide additional support and comfort during pregnancy.
The cushion helps support your body while side-lying, allowing you to relax comfortably while I can still effectively massage your back and the backs of your legs.
Your positioning will always be adapted to you and your stage of pregnancy, and additional pillows or towels can be used wherever needed for extra comfort and support.
If at any point you'd like to adjust your position, sit up, take a break or simply get more comfortable, please let me know.
Your comfort is always the priority.
Potential Benefits of Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage can provide valuable time to rest and relax while your body goes through significant physical changes.
It may help to:
- Promote relaxation
- Ease everyday muscular tension
- Soothe tired or aching muscles
- Relax muscles as your body adapts throughout pregnancy
- Comfort tired legs and feet
- Ease tension through the back, neck and shoulders
- Relax tension around the back and hips
- Reduce feelings of physical tension associated with stress
- Promote an overall feeling of wellbeing
- Give you dedicated time to rest and switch off
Every pregnancy and every person is different, so your treatment focuses on how you're feeling and what you need from your appointment rather than promising a particular physical result.
Pregnancy Massage for Back & Hip Tension
Changes to your body during pregnancy can place different demands on your muscles, and the back and hips are common areas where you may notice everyday tension or discomfort.
My targeted Pregnancy Massage is specifically designed for clients who would like more of their treatment time devoted to these areas.
Gentle massage techniques are used to relax muscular tension, with the pressure and positioning adapted for pregnancy and your individual comfort.
If you're experiencing new, severe, persistent or unexplained back, hip or pelvic pain, please discuss this with your midwife, GP or appropriate healthcare professional rather than relying on massage to treat it.
Pregnancy Massage vs a Regular Massage
Pregnancy Massage isn't simply a standard massage performed on someone who happens to be pregnant.
Your treatment is adapted specifically around pregnancy.
This may include changes to:
- Your position on the massage couch
- The support provided with pillows and towels
- The areas being treated
- The pressure used
- Massage techniques
- The amount of time spent in a particular position
Your comfort and wellbeing remain the priority throughout your treatment.
When Can I Have Pregnancy Massage?
Massage during pregnancy needs to be considered on an individual basis.
Your stage of pregnancy, general health, how your pregnancy is progressing and any complications or medical conditions all need to be considered before treatment.
A consultation will therefore be completed before your massage.
If you have a high-risk pregnancy, pregnancy complication, existing medical condition, are taking medication or have been advised to limit particular activities or treatments, please contact me before booking.
Where appropriate, I may ask you to speak to your midwife, GP or other healthcare professional before treatment.
When Should Pregnancy Massage Be Avoided or Postponed?
Pregnancy Massage may need to be avoided, postponed or require medical approval in certain circumstances.
Please contact me before booking if you:
- Have been told your pregnancy is high risk
- Have experienced unexplained bleeding during pregnancy
- Have significant or unexplained abdominal pain
- Have a pregnancy-related complication
- Develop significant or sudden swelling
- Have high blood pressure or concerns regarding your blood pressure
- Have a current or suspected blood clot/DVT
- Have an active infection, fever or are generally unwell
- Have recently experienced a change in your pregnancy that concerns you
- Have been advised by your midwife, GP or maternity team to avoid massage or complementary therapies
This isn't an exhaustive list.
Your consultation gives us the opportunity to discuss your individual circumstances and determine whether massage is appropriate.
If you're unsure, please contact me before booking.

You will be covered with towels throughout your treatment, with only the area being massaged uncovered at any one time.
Your comfort, privacy and dignity will always be respected throughout your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Pregnancy Massage the Same as Prenatal Massage?
Yes. Pregnancy Massage, Prenatal Massage and Antenatal Massage are terms used to describe massage adapted specifically for pregnancy.
At Pamper Room I call the treatment Pregnancy Massage, although you may see it described elsewhere as Prenatal or Antenatal Massage.
Is Pregnancy Massage Safe?
Whether massage is appropriate needs to be considered individually during pregnancy.
Your stage of pregnancy, general health, how your pregnancy is progressing and any complications or medical conditions should all be considered before treatment.
That's why a consultation is completed before your massage and, where appropriate, I may recommend that you speak to your midwife or another healthcare professional first.
Can I Have Pregnancy Massage During My First Trimester?
If you're in your first trimester, please contact me before booking so we can discuss your individual circumstances and make sure the treatment is appropriate for you.
Do I Have to Lie on My Stomach?
No.
Your positioning will be adapted as your pregnancy progresses so that you're comfortable and appropriately supported throughout your treatment.
Can You Massage My Legs & Feet During Pregnancy?
Yes. Where appropriate, the legs and feet are included in my Full Body Pregnancy Massage, and they can be particularly lovely areas to have massaged when they feel tired or heavy.
Pregnancy massage requires some adaptations, so I use gentle, appropriate techniques and take your stage of pregnancy and individual circumstances into consideration.
As part of my pregnancy massage protocol, I avoid stimulating certain reflexology and pressure points around the ankles and feet until 37 weeks onwards. From 37 weeks, treatment will still be adapted to you and your individual pregnancy.
Certain symptoms or medical circumstances may mean that leg or foot massage needs to be avoided altogether, which is why your consultation before treatment is so important.
Can Pregnancy Massage Help with Back & Hip Discomfort?
Massage may help to relax everyday muscular tension through the back, hips and surrounding muscles.
My Pregnancy Back Massage concentrates particularly on the back and hips for this reason.
Persistent, severe, sudden or unexplained back, hip or pelvic pain during pregnancy should be discussed with your midwife or appropriate healthcare professional.
Can I Have Deep Tissue Massage While Pregnant?
I recommend booking my Pregnancy Massage rather than a standard Deep Tissue Massage during pregnancy.
This allows your positioning, pressure and massage techniques to be appropriately adapted around you and your pregnancy.
Will Massage Oils Help with Stretch Marks?
Massage oil helps moisturise and condition the skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth and supple.
Massage oils cannot guarantee the prevention or reduction of stretch marks, which are a normal skin change that can occur during pregnancy.
Which Pregnancy Massage Should I Book?
Choose the Full Body Pregnancy Massage if you'd like a complete relaxing treatment including your legs and feet, hands and arms, upper chest, neck and back.
Choose the Pregnancy Back Massage if you'd particularly like your treatment to concentrate on your back and hips.
If you're unsure, you're always welcome to contact me before booking.
